Hello Butterfly

These beautiful cards were made using the Altenew Painted Butterflies Stamps.  With these stamps, there are three parts to the stamping process.

Stamp Layering

  1. The first part is stamping the outline, which I stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock.
  2. Then I used Altenew inks in Caramel Toffee (for the top butterfly) and Frosty Pink (for the bottom butterfly).
  3. On top of the Caramel Toffee I used Paper Bag and on top of the Frosty Pink I used Coral Berry. This gives a 3D colouring effect.
  4. Then the butterflies were fussy cut out.

Card One

For the base of the card, I used Bazzill white cardstock, with a pale green cardstock trimmed slightly smaller.  The background dots on the green card was made with distress mists and flicked from the misting spray stick to give this effect. I adhered this piece on the white card with ATC tape, and placed the butterflies on the front of the card using foam dots.  Also used Wink of Stella to give the butterfly wings a little shine.

The sentiment used was from the same stamp set and cut as a banner across the bottom left of the card on the same white cardstock.  It was then finished off with a few sequins.

Card Two

The cardstock used was forest green, with a layer of orange behind the white watercolour card to add some dimension to corresponded with the stamping and misting.

They were stamped using the same technique as above, this time straight onto the watercolour card. With Frayed Leaf as the first stamped layer and Forest Green as the second stamped layer with black Memento as the outline.

For the background, I put Caramel Toffee ink on an acrylic block, added a few drops of water. Then mixed it with my water pen and then flicked it to make the small droplets (making sure not to get any on the butterfly bodies).  The same technique was used for the green Forest Glades droplets.

The card was then assembled using ATC tape.

I stamped the sentiment “Hello” (from the Altenew Half Tone Hello Stamp set) straight on the watercolour card front. Then used a small scrap of the orange to make the banner. Stamped the “you” sentiment to it, using the Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, again using ATC tape to adhere to the card.

These butterflies are so fun to stamp in lots of different directions to create either a background or to use as your main eye-catching piece.

*With some stamps it is better/easier to stamp the outline image first but these stamps are designed to stamp the biggest solid image first.
