What better way to use a shaker card than on a bright and colourful birthday card. Add some Wild Birthday stamped images and the card is perfect! I love Avery Elle clear stamps and paper pads. The full list of all the supplies I used to create this card are listed and linked at the end of this blog post.
Making The Card
I created a 11cm x 14cm card base from Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock, and cut a piece of Bristol card to the 11cm x 14cm. Then die cut a large circle from the Bristol card. I trimmed the sun rays patterned paper from the Brights paper pad to about 10cm square, and adhered this to the top of the card base. I stamped the sentiment ‘Celebrate’ – making sure it would be in the centre of the circle aperture.
Stamping & Colouring
On another piece of Bristol card, I stamped the rhino, lion, two balloons and two party hats with Archival black ink. I coloured these with the Zig Clean Colour markers – adding some simple shading. Then die cut with the co-ordinating dies.
On the die cut panel, I randomly stamped the other images from the Wild Birthday stamp set to create a background, and coloured these in with the Clear Colour markers. I used strong tape adhesive to hold a square of cut up page protector (slightly larger than the circle) to the back of this piece.
I created the shaker using the ‘old school’ method. First, I folded up my foam tape to create a double thickness and cut this in half. By removing all the release tape, it is easier to bend the foam tape around the circle aperture. To make sure that my front panel is lined up properly to the card base, I added a bunch of colourful sequins from a bling pack from a Zenbroidery kit to the sun ray paper.
Finishing The Card
Adding more doubled up foam tape to the rest of the front panel to keep any of the card from sagging. Lay the front panel onto the card base making sure the sides line up as close as possible.
To add some string to the balloons, I put a dot of Multi medium matte to the back of the balloons, and adhered the two balloons to the front of the card with foam tape. Check the length of the string before cutting any excess. I adhered the rhino and lion to the card front so it would look like they are holding the balloons. To finish the card, I added the two party hats.
I hope you enjoyed this shaker card and blog post.
