Christmas Carolling Critters

posted in: Blog, Jeni 0

Hello, I was inspired to create a night sky with a glow around the lamp for a beautiful night time scene.  I love all the cute clear stamps in this set by Avery Elle.  There are four singing critters, a lamp to help set a scene, snowflakes, lots of musical notes and lovely handwritten style sentiments. I have linked and listed all the products I used to create this card.

Background Scene

I started by die cutting the large postage die twice from watercolour cardstock. From the inside piece of one watercolour card, I die cut two snowbanks, and one snowbank from vellum.

On the other watercolour panel I stamped some snowflakes and music notes with versamark, and sprinkled on white embossing powder. When these were heat set I used Squeezed Lemonade behind the lamp for the glow, I blended the rest of the sky with a little Wilted Violet and Seedless Preserves. Using a paper towel I wiped off any ink from the embossing.

Stamping & Colouring

On a piece of Neenah Solar White card I stamped the bear, fox and lamppost. I love colouring with the Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers. For the bear’s fur I used Dark Brown for his nuzzle Mid Brown and Light Pink for his nose. For his sweater I used Carmine Red and Deep Green.

The fox I used Light Brown, Mid Brown, and a Light Pink for his nose. I used Carmine Red and Deep Green on his hat. I used Cool Grey 1 for the white on the fox’s tail and song sheets. Finally the wreath was coloured using Deep Green and May Green on the leaves, Carmine Red for the bow and Yellow for the light. Once all these stamped images were coloured I die cut with the co-ordinating dies.

Finishing The Card

I adhered both the postage stamp frames to a side folding 14 x 11cm card base -one on top of the other. I adhered the sky panel and the two watercolour card snowbanks inside these frames. Cut the bottom of the lamppost and adhered this to the right hand side. I am testing some clear foam tape to adhere the vellum snowbank (What do you use to adhere vellum)?

Foam tape is used to adhere the two singing critters.

What do you think of this card?  Is it still too early for you to be thinking about Christmas cards?  I promise the next blog post will not be Christmas related…
