Happy Birthday Mermaid

Hello, I like to challenge myself with my card making and find clean and simple cards challenging (I always want to add more!)  WIth this card I managed to keep with the elegant and clean theme, with just a tiny pop of colour and some sparkly sequins.  I haven’t play with the Mermaid For You stamp set by Lawn Fawn for a while so I thought I would try out some new card designs with the cute mermaids.

Ink Blending

I trimmed a piece of Neenah Solar White card to 14 x 11cm which I adhered down to the card base. On a piece of Bristol card I die cut a stitched circle.   Placed the circle onto the card front and lightly traced around it. Using Tumbled Glass distress ink and a blending tool, I very lightly added a soft colour. Tapping off the extra ink onto my craft mat before taking my blending tool to the card.  I started blending out from behind where the circle will be going (this adds a soft glow).

The Bristol card is the best card to use with your Zig markers.

Mermaid Colouring

On the circle die cut I stamped the mermaid from Mermaid for You stamp set with archival black ink. To make a mask I stamped the mermaid onto a post it note and fussy cut this out. With the mask in place I stamped the trident in her hand. I also stamped the diamond tiara in her hair (both in black archival ink).

For her bikini top and fin I used 33 Persian Green and 40 Green, her hair is coloured with 22 Carmine Red with 260 Deep Red as the shadow colour. I used 50 Yellow for the diamond tiara.

I trimmed a piece of Neenah Solar White to 14 x 1.5cm and laid out the elements and used a ‘Happy Birthday’ stamp from Altenew as my sentiment. I trimmed another piece of Neenah Solar White to 14 x 1cm and stamped the diagonal stripes stamp set by MFT with black archival ink.

Finishing The Card

I adhered both these strips to the card base and used foam tape to the circle die cut to add some dimension. I felt this card needed some shimmer, so I squeezed some clear Wink of Stella onto an acrylic block and flicked it over the card. My acrylic block had some red marker on it – so this also got flicked onto my card.  To finish this card I added some silver sequins.
