This stamp set Wild Birthday by Avery Elle is so great for creating bright and bold birthday cards or gift tags.  There are so many ways to use this stamp set for amazing cards, or even scrapbook layouts.  The critters are great for colouring in and practicing shading.  This stamp set would be great for new baby cards too!

All the supplies I used to create this card are listed and linked to the shop below for easy shopping if you want to try out this stamp set or ink blending technique.

I placed the two largest cross stitched rectangle dies and placed one inside the other to die-cut an inside panel and a frame at once. Repeating this twice from watercolour card.  On one inside panel I die-cut the grassy border, then ink blended Pine Needles distress ink and a little Mowed Lawn distress ink to create a ‘land’ area.

On the other panel I blended Ripe Persimmon, Mustard Seed and Squeezed Lemonade distress inks to create a sun set.  I then spritzed both panels with water from my Distress Sprayer, let the water sit for 20-30 seconds then blotted them dry with a paper towel.  On one frame piece I inked the whole frame with Mustard Seed distress Ink.

Stamping & Colouring

On a piece of Bristol card I stamped a lion and two birds with archival black ink. I had already stamped and coloured the vine banner and leaves previously, so I’m not sure the exact colours I used for the leaves.

On the vine I used 064 Oatmeal and 067 Mustard. The pendant banners were coloured in 064 Oatmeal and 071 Flesh. Lion is coloured with 070 Orange and 052 Bright Yellow for the body. For the mane I used 052 Bright Yellow and 050 Yellow.

I flicked 070 Orange on the mane and body to add some fur texture. For the face, I used 064 Oatmeal to add some shade, 026 Light Pink for rosy cheeks and 071 Flesh to blend the colour out. Using three different blues for the birds. Then die cut all the images with co-ordinating dies.

Making The Scene

To put the card together I adhered another frame to a side folding card base. Adhered the sunset panel inside this frame. The vine banner across the top left and two leaves top right.

Finishing The Card

I adhered the grass panel and the lion with tape adhesive and used liquid glue for the birds. I thought it would be cute for one of the birds to be sitting on the lion’s head. Before foam mounting the frame, I stamped ‘HAPPY’. For the ‘birthday’ I covered “HUGE” and “wishes” with washi tape so my sentiment reads ‘HAPPY birthday’. I cut some foam tape in half and foam mounted the Mustard Seed frame.
