Christmas Colour Wash Card with Glitter

posted in: Blog, Jeni 0

Hi, the Christmas Cheer Turnabout stamp set is one of my favourite stamp sets from this year.  I wanted to emboss the whole background in white and add washes of colour for a beautiful yet simple Christmas card.  All the products I used are listed and linked at the bottom of this post.  This is an easy design to create in lots of different colours.  Are a modern Christmas person or a traditional Green and Red Christmas person?

Turnabout Embossing

I placed the stamp in the Tim Holtz stamp platform, lining it up on the jig and stamped all 4 turns with Versamark embossing ink, so I would only have to heat set the embossing powder once. The embossing powder I use is Ranger Superfine White Embossing powder, and I heat set until the embossing powder was melted, shiny and smooth.

Watercoloring With Distress Ink

For the first layer of colour I smoosh Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet onto my craft mat, spritz the ink with water to get the colour moving and swipe my card through.  I keep the Wilted Violet colour to the right half of the card.  To speed up the drying, I use my heat gun – being careful not to re-melt any of the embossing and swipe my card through the leftover ink on the craft mat, and leave this to dry naturally.  The embossing will create a resist so will stay nice and bright white while the rest of the card gets colourful.

Sentiment Vellum

From a piece of vellum I diecut a circle,  and stamped the sentiment “Have Yourself a Merry little Christmas” from the Retro Ornaments stamp set with Versafine Onyx black ink, poured on some clear embossing powder and heat set.  To add some more colour to the icons on the stamp set I used Distress Inks and a Wink of Stella Glitter brush pen.  The colours I used are: Spun Sugar, Chipped Sapphire, Shaded Lilac, Mermaid Lagoon and Black Soot.  My palette is made from a piece of Neenah Solar White card inside an Avery Elle storage pocket, and I push the ink pads down to transfer the ink to the pallet.

Finishing The Card

I trim this panel to give a small border around the four sides of the card base and mount it onto a 14 x 11cm side folding card base.  Behind the sentiment vellum circle, I add a messy nest with some iridescent nylon thread.
