Merry Christmas Robin

Hi, it’s Jeni with a cute and elegant Christmas card today. (Can you have cute and elegant together??)

Making The Background

I love making my own backgrounds with background stamps and fell in love with the Plaid Background stamp.  Placing the stamp in the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, I inked it up with Paper Bag ink and stamped onto brown cardstock which I’d trimmed to 4.25 x 5″.  Using an acrylic block to stamp the lines to create a plaid pattern.  I used Versamark ink so I could use the Classic Gold embossing powder.

Heat Embossing

I stamped all the Plaid lines before using any embossing powder or heat setting the powder.  Once I had my background I decided to diecut a heart from the top center (I can use the heart diecut on another card).  Drawing around the heart on a piece of watercolour paper so I knew where to stamp.  I stamped the bird first and created a mask for him, placed the mask down and stamped the tree so the bird is standing on the branch. Then I also stamped the ornament five times at different heights, I only needed to mask one of them.

I used the Zig Clean Colour Real Brush markers and an Aqua Flow water brush pen to colour all the images.  The colours I used are listed below.   Colouring the sky blue – going outside of the pencil lines, and continuing the dotted lines from the ornaments outside the painted heart shape.

Gold Embossed Stripe

Because my brown card is shorter than a card base, I pushed my Versamark ink pad down onto the top and bottom edges and poured on the same Classic Gold embossing powder.  Once this was heat set, I added some foam tape to the back of the heart frame and adhered the watercoloured piece – making sure that it is lined up. And added some more foam tape to the rest of the brown card and adhered this to my card base.

For the sentiment, I stamped Merry Christmas with Versafine Onyx black ink, and clear heat embossed. Trimming this down and a scrap of white slightly larger to have a small border. Pushing my Versamark ink pad onto a scrap of white card so I could cover this with the same gold embossing powder so that everything would match.  I adhered the gold card flat to the card and used foam tape on the sentiment.

I love the look of the gold embossing against the brown card.

Do you like this card? Leave a comment to let me know.
