Hi, I have a fun and wild birthday or party card for you today. I have created a video showing the whole card tutorial – which you can view by clicking HERE
Colouring The Critters
I stamped the lion, hippo and rhino on Bristol smooth card, and also stamped three birds and the banner across the top edges. While I did not get a good impression with one of the birds so instead of not using this panel, I stamped some birds onto a scrap piece of Bristol. I stamped another banner onto another piece of Bristol.
Colouring all the critters with the light source being in the center. For the rhino I used 94 Green Grey and 90 Grey. The hippo I used 90 Grey and 91 Light Grey – with 71 Flesh for the cheeks, and for the lion I used 60 Brown, 70 Orange and 52 Bright Yellow. With the birds are 52 Bright Yellow and 70 Orange. And finally, the leaves and vine are 43 and 48, with 901 for the banner.
This stamp set comes with separate letters that spell “Happy” or “Party” that can be stamped inside the banner pennants. I trimmed the main panel to 7×14 cm. I diecut the banner and birds with the coordinating dies.
For the background I smooshed some Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide onto a craft mat, sprayed the ink with water and swiped and pushed my card down to pick up the colour. I heat set this layer, cleaned my craft mat and smooshed Cracked Pistachio and Peeled Paint Distress Oxides. Again, I sprayed the ink with water and dabbed my card into it. I dried this with my heat gun, picked up more colour from my craft mat, sprayed more water and blotted some of the ink until I was happy with the look.
Finishing The Card
I foam mounted the critter panel to add some dimension and used liquid glue for the birds, and for the banner – adding some small pieces of foam tape where the banner over hung to the background.
The supplies I used are listed and linked below and are available from our online shop.
