Elephant Christmas Pop Up Card

posted in: Blog, Jeni 0

Hi, I think Christmas cards are my favourite to make.  I wanted to do something a little different and use the Elephants with Christmas images to create a fun card.  This is the same card design that I used in the Tis The Season card class – the video tutorial showing this card is about 1 hour long.  I will try to explain as best I can. There was no die to create the card I trimmed and score the card to make the pop up card base.Elephant-Of-Surprise

Making The Card Base

I started with two pieces of white card trimmed to 6 x 4 1/4″ and scored to create a base that when folded flat would fit into a standard envelope.  Stamping the Plaid background with Candied Apple distress ink onto white card, I trimmed these to fit on all the flaps leaving a small white border.   I used the Stamp Platform and stamped a whole sheet of Neenah card so I would definitely have enough. There are also three tabbed pieces for the elements to be glued too.Elephant-Of-Surprise

Adding Critters

Stamping the elephant from the Elephant of Surprise stamp set and some of the smaller images from Elfish Antics onto Bristol card so I could use the Zig markers to colour them in.  With basic shading and colouring on these images.  The colours I used will be listed with the supplies at the bottom of this post.  I used glue dots to adhere the bottom of the images to a small pieces of acetate and adhered the acetate to the tab.  And tried to make sure that all the images would be seen when you look at this card face on.Elephant-Of-Surprise

I’ve already adhered the plaid stamped pieces before adding my sentiment so I placed the card in my stamp platform and used Versafine Onyx black ink to stamp the sentiment “Happy Christmas”.  The Happy is from the Happy Snappy Crocs stamp set.  Heffy Doodle stamps use the same font in their stamp sets so you can easily mix and match to get the sentiment you wish.

What do you think of this card?

I love the cute elephant running away with a candy cane in his trunk.  The hat he is wearing is the hat from the girl elf in Elfish Antics.  I stamped the girl elf and just cut along the edge of the hat so I could add it to the elephant.
