Polar Peek A Boo & Photo Mat Scene Cards by Jeni

I am loving the latest release by Avery Elle.  As soon as I saw these cute critters from the Polar Peek A Boo Pals stamp set I knew I had to use them with the new Photo Mat die set! I know it is meant to be Interactive Cards this month but I just had to share these cards with you. I can’t wait to team these Polar pals with the other critters from the Peek A Boo pals stamp set.  You can add scarfs and hats to the other critters. How cute will the elephant look with a winter hat on!?  I used the same products for both cards but used a different background.

I stamped the critters, their paws/flippers(??) hats and scarves onto Bristol Smooth card with Catherine Pooler Midnight ink and used my Zig Clean Colour markers to colour them in. The colours I used will be listed below in the supply list.  Once the images were coloured I diecut them all. To snip of the extra wire piece once your dies are separated – I held the sharp end against the Spellbinders Magnetic Attraction tool to make sure that little bit of metal doesn’t fly across the room – now I have a pair of little paws I need to be more careful.

For the polaroid frame, I diecut the Photo Mat die (leaving all the dies attached) from the same Bristol Smooth card. Placing the frame, the curved hill which I will use as a snow bank and the clouds aside, so I could add some colour to the sky and tree area.  Adding a very light amount of Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide to the sky, and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide to the trees.

To adhere the polaroid scene together I placed some 2” wide Be Creative Scor tape to the back of the frame and puzzle pieced the scene elements in place.  Before fully pushing down the snowbank piece I popped in my critters so the bottom of their bodies are hidden.  I stamped the sentiment with the same black ink at a slight angle on the frame. Then used foam tape to adhere the foxes paws, penguins flippers and the hat and scarf.

Adding To The Background

The background needs a bit more interest, so I took another piece of Bristol card and heat embossed the Hero Arts Tiny Flags stamp.  Making sure to use my anti-static powder bag on my card first.  I inked up the stamp with Versamark and placed my card onto the stamp.  Embossing with Ranger Superfine White Embossing powder and heat set until all the powder had melted and turned shiny and smooth.  The Be Creative tape is double sided, so I removed the release paper and added some more tape to the bottom of the frame and adhered this to my card panel at an angle.  Finally I mounted this to a standard A2 sized card base.

My second card is very much the same.  I used Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide for the sky and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide for the grass.  Stamped the sentiment at the bottom right of the frame. With foam tape behind the frame to adhere the scene pieces together, and liquid glue for the critters, paws, flippers, hat and scarf.

To add some more colour to the background, I held my frame where I was planning on placing it and made two light pencil marks where the sky/grass area meets on the frame scene.  Ink blended Tumbled Glass from the top of the card to this pencil mark, and Mowed Lawn from the bottom to meet this area.  Blending  the colours lightly where they met but not too much.  I spritzed some water droplets onto the background, waited 30 seconds then blotted the water dry with a paper towel.

Stamping a few of the snowflakes from the stamp set with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink into the sky.   Removing the release paper from the foam tape and adhered the frame to the background lining up the sky/grass line.  I mounted this to a standard A2 sized card base and my second card is finished.

Finishing Touches

Once both cards were on their card bases, I added a little dot of Black Glaze pen to their eyes and the foxes noses.

Which is your favourite Polar Peek A Boo critter?

When do you start making Christmas cards?
