Hi, I wanted to make some backgrounds using the Tropics stamp set by Avery Elle. This stamp set has the outline and solid stamps for several tropical leaves and flowers. All the supplies I used to make these two cards are listed below and linked to the shop. To help me figure out the placement I test stamped by design on some regular printer paper before going to my card. Test stamping can help make sure that you use all the space and don’t end up with any trapped space where a stamp can’t fit.
I’m not sure if I need some black on these cards? Just a little dot – maybe in black glaze pen? To help tie in the black sentiment strip? Leave a comment and let me know.
For this bright and vibrant card I used the Life Of The Party collection of Catherine Pooler inks. I assigned one ink colour to each outline stamp I was using and stamped by pattern onto Neenah white card.
The Catherine Pooler inks are on a foam pad so only need two or three little love taps to get a fully inked stamp. The colours I used are Lime Rickey for the green leaves, Something Borrowed for the blue leaves, Party Dress for the pink leaves and Tutti Frutti for the orange leaves.
For the solid stamping I used the same colours – but second generation. I inked up the stamp in Lime Rickey and stamped once onto some scrap paper before stamping onto the card. I did this with all the solid stamps so I would have a lighter shade with a darker outline. To fill in some of the little gaps I used the smallest flower stamp and stamped in Tiki Torch and Aquatini. (Aquatini is my favourite name!)
To turn this background into a card I diecut the Wonderful word die from a Concord and 9th set from this panel, and four times from white card. I layered all these letters together and placed them back in the background. I placed some wide scor tape (Be Creative tape in USA) at the back of my panel to hold the letters down. I heat embossed a sentiment from an Altenew stamp set in white on black card, trimmed this into a small banner and adhered it above the Wonderful, and mounted this onto a 4.25 x 5.5″ card base.
I wanted to create a softer more pastel background too using the Spring Fling colours from the Party Collection. I stamped all the images the same way – the outline with the first generation and the solid image as second generation. I used It’s A Girl for the pink leaves, Garden Party for the green leaves, It’s A Boy for the blue and Bellini for the orange. I added in the largest flower stamp in Tiara, and added the lines with Tiki Torch. I used Tiki Torch for the small outline flower image and second generation for this solid stamp. I filled in some space with the smallest flower stamp in second generation Aquatini and second generation Tiara.
To finish this pastel background, I diecut the same Wonderful word die five times from white card and layered them all together. I left these under an acrylic block until they were dry. From the background panel I die cut a cross stitched square, and mounted the outside frame flat to a card base and popped up the square on foam tape. I adhered all the letters into the square and added a sentiment strip to finish the card.
So, do these cards need a little bit of black or not?
