Snow Globe Shaker Card by Laura

Hello, crafty humans! Laura here and I’m up today with a Christmas shaker card using Snow Globe Die from Catherine Pooler. This amazing die comes with all the pieces you need to make snow globes on your cards! I’m also incorporating some of the leftovers from a previous postof mine (that had used the bokeh effect.) Waste not, want not! 😁

Let’s get started with today’s card.

Stamping The Background

FIrst I chose four of the designs included in Cozy Borders Stamps by Catherine Pooler and loaded them into my stamping tool all one butted up next to each other. This way I could easily make sure they are all lined up straight and I can stamp all four in one swoop. Then I simply moved my panel up and down to cover an entire piece of 4.25” x 5.5” Neenah Solar White. I used Evergreen Bough Distress Ink to match the snow globe’s woodland background (more on that in a minute!)

With my front panel covered in that gorgeous pattern, I used the circle die from the Snow Globe Die set to cut a circle from the center of the panel (about a third of the way down.) I then cut a piece of acetate (big enough to cover the circle window) and adhered it with tape runner.

Shaker Element

To create the background of the snow globe, I cut out the deer, tree, and snow globe base from Kraft cardstock. I dusted the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink using Nuvo Blending Brushes to give them a bit of depth. I also used a Sakura White Gel Pen to add a few details (such as speckles on the deer’s hindquarters as well as snow on the deer and tree.)

I was going to simply cut a circle from colored cardstock to use for the background but I found something even better in my stash! I had saved the circle die cut out from when I used this same die to cut a circle window in my post about spinner cards. It was perfect for creating an ethereal, woodland backdrop for the scene.

I like to save pretty much any die cut if I think I can repurpose it later! I use the Avery Elle Storage Pocketsto keep my stamps and dies organised. When I have unused panels or die cuts, I will put them in the pocket – on the backside so I can use them if inspiration hits!

Snowy Scene

To give the scene a snowy ground, I cut another circle from Neenah Solar white then used a Hillside Border Die from Lawn Fawn. I adhered the snowy hills, tree, and deer to the bokeh circle using tape runner.

I placed the stamped front panel on top on a top-folding card base (I made from Neenah Solar White) and drew a light pencil mark around the opening so I would know exactly where to glue down the bokeh scene. I adhered it in place using tape runner.

With the snow globe background in place, I used 3M Foam Tape to create a tight “wall” around my background circle/scene. I also used it to cover the rest of the card base front. Then I filled the snow globe circle with a bit of iridescent glitter I got from my local pound shop and I stuck the window panel on top to seal in the glitter.

Last I used the Noel and tag die that was also included in the die set. I cut the noel tag out in a coral-pink cardstock and the solid tag from Neenah Solar White covered in Nuvo Gilding Flakes. (You could also use mirror card, I just had this already made up and in my stash!)

After adhering the two tag die cuts together with tape runner, I used a marker to gently soften the card and give it a slight curve. I then made little score lines on each side (close to the edge) and glued to the snow globe base with Tombow. Now, It looks even more dimensional.

Finishing The Card

Well, folks, that’s all there is to it! I made several backgrounds using the Cozy Sweater Stamps (while I had them out) so I’ll have more backgrounds ready to go when (not if!)I need to whip up a last minute Christmas card. Same as with the circle bokeh die cut – I put them in the back of the stamp pocket so I would see them if I wanted to go for that stamp set again I might save myself a few minutes!

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope to see some of your latest makes over in  The Little Paper Treehouseover on Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by…and see Y’all next time! xo
