Magical Unicorn Birthday Cards by Jeni

Hi, its Jeni here with my first post of 2019. How is your year going so far? I decided to make two special brithday cards using some Avery Elle stamps and dies.  My original idea was to make a super intricate spinner card but I couldn’t get it to work correctly so that idea has gone into my ‘to be finished’ box.  These two cards also led to another idea that will be on YouTube shortly.  All the products I used are listed at the bottom of this post and linked to the shop. Flying-Unicorn-Avery-Elle

I started by stamping both of the unicorns with Memento ink on Neenah Solar White card, so I could do some copic colouring. My aim for this year is  to improve my copic colouring this year.  I stamped some clouds to but left these un-coloured as I don’t have any really light blues.  I took one piece of Bristol smooth card and diecut a circle from the top centre – I will use the negative piece for the purple card and the positive circle on the green card.Avery-Elle-Unicorn-Purple

For the above card, I used a cloud stencil to get the cloud shapes and alternated and overlapped Milled Lavender and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide to get some nice depth and dimension on the a scrap of card that would cover the whole of the circle aperture. I placed all my stamped images on the card but though the front looked a bit dull and empty (where the sentiment is).  I used the same inks and cloud stencil and added some fluffy clouds.  This also helps give the bottom unicorn somewhere to stand – and stops her from looking like she is floating in space.  The circle ink blending piece was attached to the front panel with foam tape. I added the flying unicorn and clouds with a double layer foam tape, then adhered the standing unicorn and sentiment strips flat to the card base.

This card is made is the same way with the same cloud stencil and Bundled Sage and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxides on the circle and on the card front.  I added the die cut circle with foam tape with the flying unicorn and the sentiment and popped up the standing unicorn with foam tape.  To finish the card I added A LOT of sparkling star confetti pieces.  The sentiments for both cards are from the Simple Sentiments Stamp Set.

Do you think I added too many stars on the green card?  Which is your favourite?
