Hi I’m Lisa and I’m thrilled to be a guest designer for The Little Paper Tree for July. Today’s make is a Birthday card, to add to my stash as I love to have some on hand, using the adorable Sunshine Bee Designs Happy Bear stamp set.
Making the Background
I love it when a stamp set contains some itty bitty stamps, like the flowers in this set. I can use them with coloured ink pads to create my own matching backgrounds.
For this card, I took a 5.5” white square card blank and placed it unfolded on my craft desk. I masked off the back of the card and stamped the flowers randomly around the edges using a pink and turquoise ink. Sometimes you will get empty spaces that are just a little too small for a stamp. I like to take a marker and place little dots to fill it in and balance the pattern.
Building the Scene
In case of mistake, I like to create the next part on a separate 4¾” square of watercolour card.
The background scene doesn’t need to cover the whole panel as most of it will be hidden in the finished card. So, to help with positioning, place your circle die in the centre of your panel. Lightly draw around the outer edge with a pencil. Stamp the swing from the top edge of the circle using the CP Midnight ink. Then paint the little scene with Spectrum Noir Harmony Water Reactive Ink Pads. When dry fix this panel to the centre of the card base.
Stamping Part 2
The bear and flower images have again been stamped onto watercolour card. I like to use smaller scraps to do this as I hate to waste anything. Also, I tend to stamp more than I need. I can pick and choose what to use and keep spares for other projects. The images have been painted the same as the background scene.
After the images dry they can be fussy cut using a pair of scissors. But to save time I used a Scan’n’Cut machine to cut them out. I fixed the flowers onto the bottom edge of the background scene and the bear has been popped on top of the swing using a foam pad for a little dimension.
I die cut the front panel/frame, using a 5” square die and a stitched outer circle die, from white card. I stamped the sentiments onto opposite corners using the CP Midnight inkpad, before fixing to the base with foam tape.
Lastly, I like a little sparkle, so I have added some flat backed pearls and a little shimmer pen to the flower centres.
I hope you like today’s card! I think the design would be good to make a batch of cards with, as you could vary the colours and sentiments to suit a lot of occasions.
