Be Colour Brave | Ink Smooshed Line Art

posted in: Blog, Tasha 0

Hey Crafty People! In this week’s Saturday Inspiration I am striving to be colour brave. I am creating a fun ink smooshed background with black, line art stamping. I chose the Love You Bunches stamp set from Trinity Stamps and then I took inspiration from their packaging & branding to select my colours.

Trinity use quite an unusual & striking colour combo for their packaging, and I’m trying to stretch myself artistically by finding inspiration for colour combos everywhere.

Be Colour Brave!

Grabbing some of my Catherine Pooler inks; for the first time I crossed the line between Party & Spa… *gasp!*
I know that the colours are co-ordinated to work together within each separate line, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find any beautiful combos by crossing that line.

Be colour brave and see what you get!
The worst that could happen is you don’t like the result, but you’ve still had fun and pushed yourself.

After all, it is only in the moments when we are pushed past our comfort level, that we actually learn and grow artistically.

Adding The Colour…

Party – Tutti Frutti, Tiki Torch, All That Jazz
Spa – Daydream, Juniper Mist

I added some of both of the warm colours onto a kraft mat and spritzed it with water, before pouncing an a2 panel of Distress Watercolour Paper into the ink.
After drying this with my heat tool, I did the same with the three cool colours.

To get the depth of colour that I wanted, I repeated this process once more for each set of colours, making sure it was thoroughly dry before adding my next layer of colour.

Super easy, and I LOVE the way it turned out!

Line Art…

I stamped the large floral image from Love You Bunches onto the coloured panel with Midnight ink; I stamped twice so that I would have a bold, dark black image.

At the same time, I also stamped the sentiment and 3 of the small individual flowers onto white 110lb Neenah Solar White. (There just happened to be scrap of this on my desk, and I really liked how solid they all were after I fussy cut them.

Adding Extra Details…

I always love to step up my card design by adding those little details. It really does make a huge difference to your finished design.

For example, I used my coloured pencils to add a little shading on the flowers and leaves, plus a little shadow around the outer edges of the image as a whole. This is subtle but really does make a big difference in allowing your flowers to pop off the background!

Today’s embellishments are Rainbow Reflections jewels, also from Trinity Stamps and they are awesome!

You can check out a super fun reels video that I have done for this card over on Instagram!

I will be back at the same time next week for more inspiration!
